You’ll rarely see Hutchies back down from some friendly competition – especially when it’s for an awesome cause. So we jumped at the chance to take on FKG and McNab to see who can build the best cubby house in Toowoomba – all while contributing to FKG’s fundraising efforts for the annual QantasLinkIt’s a Bloke Thing’ prostate cancer luncheon.

Our crew, which includes our award-winning Gold Coast School of Construction students, has been working away in secret, and we reckon they’ve designed and built the ultimate cubby house. The cubbies will be judged on Friday, 16th June by a local Toowoomba celebrity, with a very special Children’s Choice Award to be selected by the kids at FKG Building Blocks Early Learning Centre. After the winning entry has been determined, all three cubby houses will be donated to ‘It’s a Bloke Thing’ and auctioned off at the annual luncheon to be held later this year with all money raised from the auction to go the charity.

Since it started in Toowoomba in 2011, ‘It’s a Bloke Thing’ has grown to be the largest day time fundraising event in Queensland. The initiative aims not only to raise much needed money for research, but also to raise awareness and open up conversations for men to talk about prostate cancer and other men’s health issues. The Luncheon raised funds for various men’s health and research programs, including, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia, Toowoomba Hospital Foundation and Man Up! Australia.

Competition Outcome

The successful winner of the 2017 IABT Cubby House Challenge is McNab!

It's great to have friendly competition among three companies across town. Normally we're competitors during the week, but we've come together for something like this to raise some money and it's a bit of fun too.
