Hutchies was thrilled to deliver stages two and three of Global Switch Sydney East — a live inner-city data centre. The new works added a further 18,894m² of floor space to the data centre, and were completed while existing facilities stayed fully operational.  

The new facility was built in response to a number of large national and multi-national companies requiring highly resilient and secure space for housing mission critical IT equipment. With all stages now complete, the data centre provides 31,226m² of space
with an average power density of 1,850W/m² to all areas, and concurrently maintainable services. The facility accommodates associated mechanical and electrical plant space, technology support areas and offices.

Hutchinson Builders was engaged by Global Switch – a leading owner, operator and developer of large-scale, multi-customer, carrier and cloud neutral data centres across Europe and Asia–Pacific – to build stages two and three of Sydney East. 

Adjacent to Global Switch’s 41,500m² Sydney West, the new data centre is located in Ultimo on the Western edge of the Sydney CBD, offering customers a low latency network dense environment. Together the two data centres provide 73,000m² of space with 83 MVA of utility power supply.

Upon completion the three combined stages act as a standalone facility and position Global Switch at the forefront of the international data centre sector, capable of meeting Global Switch‘s customers’ requirements for the next 20 years.
