Hutchies has a passion for creating the structures that house our community heroes and help save people lives. This project was particularly special as the Royal Flying Doctor Service (QLD Section) and LifeFlight joined forces for the first time to create a shared, purpose-built, aeromedical base and patient transfer facility.
The base has been constructed to stringent compliance with seismic standard and includes dual aircraft hangars, maintenance workshop, administration, patient transfer and accommodation facility. As an industrial health facility, Hutchies followed specialised guidelines from AusHFG and ensured that appropriate infection control was in place throughout the structure.
The hangers and workshops have been constructed with durable epoxy floor finishes and specialist services to be able to withstand constant aircraft traffic and potential aviation fuel and oil spillages.
The main structure is comprised of concrete tilt panels and structural steel, finished internally with a mixture of materials such as facebrick, expressed joint fibre cement, and metal wall cladding.
Hutchies and the RFDS and LifeFlight are extremely happy with the final product. We are excited and hopeful that we will see more joint ventures such as this one.
