The Capri Hotel redevelopment has seen the transformation of an existing 22-storey office block into a new luxury hotel within Brisbane’s CBD. Built by Hutchinson Builders for Frasers Hospitality of Singapore, the $44M, 4.5 Star Capri Hotel consists of 239 rooms, three levels of public areas, two storeys of car parking, gym and swimming pool, function rooms, and coffee and restaurant areas.
Hutchies successfully overcame the challenges of an extremely tight timeframe of 47 weeks, which were heightened by long lead times from a number of suppliers. The activity necessary to meet the requirements of the programme saw the development turn over in excess of $1M a week.
Adding to the challenges was a curtain wall that surrounded the existing building, which made loading of building materials difficult. Hutchies used a specially modified hoist to let them load the 3.6m plasterboard sheets into the twenty above ground storeys.
The works included an upgrade of the existing awning and pavement surfaces along Albert and Mary Streets with limited works to the existing external building façade.
Hutchies worked extensively with Frasers on a number of local regulatory and standard requirements, much of which were unknown to Frasers before embarking on their first Australian project.
