Hutchies was delighted to have project representation from six of our regional offices at this year's Queensland Master Builders Housing & Construction Awards. Our state office footprint spans from Cairns in the far North of Queensland, down to Coolangatta, bordering New South Wales. Seventeen of our projects won in their respective categories and locations at the regional awards, progressing through to the State awards.

The 2022 Queensland awards were held on Saturday, 15 October at the Brisbane Entertainment and Convention Centre. It was great to have Hutchies people from across the state all under one roof. We were delighted with the results, taking away seven awards that will see these projects move onto the Nationals, taking place in the Hunter Valley.

Our Cairns office, led by Kyle Hare, was recognised for their achievements in constructing MYAC Eco Tourism. This local attraction, honouring East Trinity’s Indigenous and ecological history, is located on a 10 minute boat ride from Cairns in Mandingalbay Yidinji country.

Further south, Hutchies' Sunshine Coast office was awarded Medium Density up to 3 storeys — over 5 dwellings for Parkridge Noosa Stage 3. The project included a four story building, featuring 45 high end apartments, as well as works to the pool area, services, roads and footpaths.

Hutchies' John Berlese team, Project Managed by Anthony Stevens won Tourism & Leisure Facilities over $10M for revitalising Ipswich's civic centre through the Nicholas Street Precinct, a new community hub and mixed use space. This award represents the first five portions of the project which will continue to overhaul the Ipswich we all know.

John Berlese's team also received an award for West Village's Retail Precinct, Project Managed by Sebastian Curtis. Incorporating heritage buildings and comprising 10,500m² retail and commercial tenancy space as well as 4,000m² of public realm, the project is a gift to the local West End community.

Team Jamie Washington received an award for their work on N°1 Anzac Square. This complex city refurbishment created links between three different buildings, including a 6 story glass atrium. The team was also recognised for their amazing transformation of Herston Quarter Heritage Precinct, from unmaintained nurses' quarters into beautifully modern student accommodation and amenities.

Midtown Centre, led by team Greg Crittall, was awarded as an Australian architectural first — the combining of two large office towers into one high quality and sustainable commercial office building. This amazing feat was an environmentally viable option for the buildings, allowing the structures to be built upon rather than torn down, resulting in a certified 11,000 tons of carbon savings.

Everyone at Hutchies is so proud of the work that has been put into all these projects and is excited to see how they contend against their peers at the National Master Builders Housing & Construction Awards.
